Ida makes expected Northward turn...Heading for Landfall on Northern Gulf Coast Tonight...
Latitude: 28.4 N
Longtiude: 88.5 W
This is 60 miles SE of the Mouth of the Mississippi River, and also 165 miles SSW of Pensacola, FL (PNS).
Winds: Remain near 70 mph w/ higher gusts. Weakening is expected to continue until landfall as Ida moves into cooler waters along the Northern Gulf Coast. Tropical Storm force winds extend outward to 200 miles from the center of circulation. Ida will continue weakening until it merges with a cold front sweeping along the Gulf coast by Wednesday.
Motion: N @ 18 mph. A reduction in forward speed is expected overnight as Ida briefly moves into an area of weaker steering currents. Ida should reach the Northern Gulf Coast overnight, and make landfall likely somewhere between Biloxi, MS and Pensacola, FL.

Heavy rains from Ida are already moving onshore along the Northern Gulf Coast. Rainfall amounts of 3-6" with isolated amounts near 8" are expected across a large portion of the SE U.S. through Wednesday.
Storm surge values of 3-5' are expected near and to the right (East) of where the center makes landfall. The surge near the coast will be accompanied by large & destructive waves. Areas in SE Louisiana that experience onshore will also see surge levels of 3-5'.
Watches/Warnings: No change to the Tropical Storm Warning location.
Landfall will likely occur overnight near Mobile, AL (MOB). I will have a link available later on, so we can watch as the center of circulation treks toward the coast. Check back tonight for more on Ida as it lumbers towards the coast, and for the complete forecast package which promises to be a good one.
